The First Girl I Fell In Love With
Her name was Sophie. We were both homeschooled. She had a gummy smile. She was quiet and poetic. She had a pet bird.
We took homeschool biology together and used to study together at her house. We created flash cards and quizzed each other.
In December one day after studying, we watched the Nutcracker ballet on television and then her bird pooped on me. I wanted to kiss her but I didn’t.
Afterwards I went home.
Later Sophie’s mom called my mom and said Sophie liked me and asked my mom what she wanted to do about it. My mom told her that I didn’t like her and hung up the phone.
We stopped studying together after that. I almost failed my biology test.
Sophie is now married with two kids. Her husband teaches biology at a Christian university nearby. I saw her in the grocery store one day, but she didn’t recognize me.
